2026 Ruby Ranch Emergency Water Use Restrictions
On May 1, 2026 the Willow Brook Metropolitan District passed a resolution declaring a water emergency at Ruby Ranch and establishing regulations sharply limiting use of domestic water by owners.
The following outdoor uses of water are prohibited by owners until further notice:
refilling pools or hot tubs with Ruby Ranch water; purchase non-Ruby Ranch water instead
irrigation or watering of landscaping
car washing
hosing down or power washing of outdoor surfaces.
These actions are necessary given Colorado’s extreme drought conditions which are resulting in far less water flowing into Ruby Ranch’s wells and ditches in 2026.
Water use by Ruby Ranch owners typically surges in the summer due to outdoor water use and some households use far more than others. This summer we all need to do our part to conserve water.
As a benchmark, Denver Water is asking its residents to use no more than 40 gallons of water per person per day. This translates to no more than 2,440 gallons/month for a 2-person household or 4,880 gallons/month for a 4-person household. Ruby Ranch’s water system is less robust than Denver Water’s system and we have fewer full-time residents, suggesting our target water use levels should be even lower.
Do you know what your household’s water usage is? This information can be found on your monthly water bill from the WBMD and can also be found in an Aquahawk online account. For information about Aquahawk and how to register, click here.
We also urge all owners to install leak detection systems to promptly detect water leaks at your home. More information can be found here.
